Something that has always fascinated me is the rent names for the same things in different regions.  One of the most common differences is calling soft drinks “pop” or “soda”.

There is a map on Strange Maps that covers this.

If you look closely to the North Dakota area there is what looks 50-80% of the people in Wells County call soft drinks “soda” surrounded by most of the rest of the state that calls them “pop”.  Also, look at that county way up in northern Minnesota, Lake of the Woods County.  The map indicates that 50-80% of the people up there call it something other than “soda” or “pop”.  My guess is that they call it “beer”.
