An article by Christopher Gibson for BrooWaha Houston entitled "No, I Will Not Fix Your Computer", caught my eye today. The subtitle is "The real reason your company’s computer guy doesn’t want to work on your personal PC."
The article outlines the reasons for a professional IT persons reluctance to work on home PCs.
The author goes out of his way to make sure that his non-IT readers not take his comments personally:
I’m just trying to make it easier for you to understand that it’s really not personal, it’s not that we don’t like you. We really just don’t like to work on personal PC’s.
Requesting help with your home PC from an IT professional is much like asking your doctor friend, while grilling steaks, about that little private rash that doesn’t seem to go away.
NOTE: The article that I mention in this article in no way reflects my opinion in all situations. I have helped many friends with their home PCs when I could. I usually do a pretty good job of letting people know if they would be better off going to someone else. I in no way want to start resenting one of my friends because of the frustration of working with their broken PC.
